The Brutal Stupidity of Truth

by fmhilton

For 40 years this country has had a minority of vocal and strident protesters who have actively tried to stop legal abortions that are allowed under Roe v. Wade, which was upheld as law by the Supreme Court in 1973, a huge legal victory for women and their right to reproductive choice.

Their reasons are many, but the protesters for the most part are white Christians who claim that every child is precious and a gift from god-preferably it should be a white child. They’re always loud and obnoxious, with their moral rectitude on view for everyone to see. They wave their Bibles and preach against the sin of killing unborn fetuses. They display graphic and repulsive photographs for all to see.

They’ve been successful in many states in passing laws that restrict or outlaw abortion providers, shutting them down, harassing the women who use the services, the employees of these services, or in even several notorious cases, killing the providers themselves.

The latest case of an abortion “doctor” being convicted of killing 3 babies born alive when delivered is not the point here-what he did was wrong, and were part of the many crimes he committed while ‘practicing’ medicine-and it is reasonably argued that removing legal and qualified providers (which was not in evidence here) will impel poor women to places such as his ‘clinic’ in their desperate attempts to get a legal abortion, when all other options are gone.

“Kermit Gosnell has been found guilty and will get what he deserves. Now, let’s make sure these women are vindicated by delivering what all women deserve: access to the full range of health services including safe, high-quality and legal abortion care,” said Ilyse G. Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America.

The anti-abortion groups ignore the inconvenient fact that abortion and birth control are legal in this country. Both are voluntary and no woman is required to have either, if she so wishes to not use either. No woman is ever forced to have an abortion or sterilization.

I say we ship them all to China, right now, to inflict on that country their moralistic bombast.

After all, all babies are precious, aren’t they? Aren’t the Chinese in dire need of the ‘correct’ way of thinking, as evidenced by these religious zealots?

Because in China, abortion is mandatory if you have more than 1 child (and are poor, by the way. The rich get as many as they can afford). Huge amounts of money need to be paid to be able to have a second one.

If a woman is caught being pregnant with an ‘illegal’ second child by the authorities, she is often forced to undergo a forced abortion, no matter what trimester she is in, especially if she cannot afford to pay the exorbitant fee demanded for an ‘extra child’. There have been millions of forced sterilization as well.

According to Chinese Health Ministry data released in March, 336 million abortions and 222 million sterilizations have been carried out since 1971. (Though the one-child policy was introduced in 1979, other, less-stringent family planning policies were in place before it.)

If the religious people actually cared about all humanity, and not their own special brand of person, they could really do a number on the Chinese government. Can you imagine the uproar they could make about this, if they so cared to?

Can you actually imagine them waving pictures of Chinese women who have had forced abortions? Wouldn’t that be just so awesome?

But it won’t happen-for a multitude of reasons.

The Chinese government certainly wouldn’t like them to even dare appear in the country. After all, they threw out all the Christian missionaries during their Revolution and religious groups are vigorously suppressed. I’m kind of envious of that one, too-they don’t have to deal with the kinds of nutcases that we have to endure for the sake of free speech and religion.

But be that as it may-the stunning hypocrisy of the Christian anti-abortion groups is just simply overwhelming when it comes to reality, and just as misplaced.

After all, they’re not the ones who have to raise the child they so successfully ‘rescued’ from abortion, are they?
